Selling or Trading Your Surplus

Another option for when your garden has gifted you with more than you can handle is to sell or trade your surplus. There are several ways to do this. You can set up a stand in your own yard provided that you live somewhere that people will see your signs or where sales are permitted. (Some home owner’s groups will not permit this or severely restrict how often you can have a sale or the type of things that you can sell.) Other options include:

Setting up a booth at a local farmer’s market. Most charge a minimal fee for a booth space while others may require membership in a local co-op instead of a fee.

Asking a local business owner if they would like to sell fresh produce for a small fee. Most will typically accept a percentage of the profits to sell baskets of fruits and vegetables or fresh farm eggs. Look for businesses that are selling other locally made items because they love to play up the “local” angle.
